Preparation & procedure guides
Each procedure has its own preparation and information guide. Download the guide that matches your booking, follow it carefully, and call us if anything is unclear. Your specialist will confirm exactly which instructions apply to you.
What preparation involves
Every day procedure follows the same broad path — from referral through to admission. Your written guide sets out the detail; here's what to expect at each step.
-
Get a referral & book by phone
Ask your GP for a current referral, then call us on (02) 8964 8619 to arrange your procedure and confirm costs.
-
Complete pre-admission with your hospital
Your hospital will send pre-admission paperwork to complete before the day, covering your health history and any medications.
-
Follow your fasting or bowel-preparation instructions
Follow the fasting or bowel-preparation instructions for your specific procedure exactly as set out in your guide.
-
Arrange a responsible adult to take you home
Because you'll be sedated, you must have a responsible adult take you home and stay with you afterwards.
-
Arrive at the hospital at your admission time
Arrive at the hospital at the admission time provided with your booking, bringing your Medicare card and referral.
You cannot drive after sedation
Sedation stays in your system for the rest of the day. Arrange for someone to collect you — you must not drive, sign legal documents or drink alcohol until the following day.
